Peacher -John Arnold
In this series, we’ve been following the Galilean ministry of Jesus – his popularity because of his teaching and healing miracles. The gospels say again and again, ‘Who is this man?’ ‘We’ve never seen such wonders as this.’ But the time came when the popularity turned to opposition and his opponents eventually tortured Jesus to death by crucifixion. What a turn around? From popularity to crucifixion in a few short years. Today we’ll look at why there was so much opposition to Jesus and some of the main reasons why he was rejected.
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and illness.
Mark 1:21-34 describes a series of activities that happened on a Sabbath day.
In the next 10 weeks of this teaching series, we’re going to look at the main part of Jesus’ public ministry that took place in Galilee after the arrest of John the Baptist. We’re going to focus on main events as they happened on a daily basis, starting with the commencement of Jesus’ ministry as the “Day of Scripture’s Fulfillment” focusing on Luke 4:14-30. Jesus’ home base in the region of Galilee was Capernaum (Mat 4:13) and this in itself was a fulfillment of Isaiah 9:1-2. Capernaum was in the general area allotted to the tribes of Zebulon and Naphtali that Isaiah mentions will be made “glorious” by one who is a great light.
