Much of our church's fellowship life is expressed in the network of Christian home-based small groups that meet weekly or fortnightly.
These Small Groups exist to provide church members and others with the experience of Christian friendship, prayer, learning from God's Word and mutual ministry.
For further information contact the Small Groups Coordinator.
We encourage church members to strengthen their Christian lives through the fellowship of the Body of Christ in face to face relationships. Small groups can take different forms.
What Happens in a Christian Small Group?
The answer is "Christian fellowship" - sharing God's love and presence in and through Jesus Christ. It is really a "church" experience - in a small scale. We praise God, we share God's Truth in Scripture, we encourage one another, we pray for the Kingdom and human needs, and we take part in God's call to spread his good news and serve our world.
Some guideline for leading and participating in a Christian Small Group can be found in our Christian Small Groups Manual (in the Resources section).
Leaders Meeting
To keep our Small Groups working well, we need to support and equip our leaders - and meeting together for mutual encouragement as group leaders is a great way to do this. Each quarter we gather our leaders for fellowship as a team. Leaders should come ready to share their thoughts about the following questions:
- What does your group do really well?
- What main aspect of your group do you think needs improvement?
Smallest Groups
When two or three fellow believers in Christ meet together to build each other up in their faith, we have a small group. Here the nature of "church" can be seen in operation - gathering in the name of Christ to read his Word, apply it to life, encourage and exhort one another to live obedient lives under the direction of God's Spirit, pray together and think about how to extend God's Kingdom on earth.
You could call these smaller groups "Micro-churches". A set of simple guidelines for this kind of small group can be found in the Resources section of this website. Why not consider meeting with one or two like-minded fellow Christians to explore the abundant life in Christ?
Fellowship Gathering
An opportunity for "church in the home" is available fortnightly on Fridays at the home of our Rector, open to visitors. New members of our church are warmly invited to come. This small group offers the essential components of "church": praise and thanksgiving; listening to God's Word; encouragement and mutual exhortation; prayer for God's Kingdom and the needs of people; and a focus on serving as part of God's mission.
As there may be some breaks in meeting dates, please check with our church office or the events calendar on this site. You can inform us about your intention to attend by emailing the Rector or church office.
Home Groups
Many members of our church belong to one of our small groups that meet (usually) in homes on a weekly or fortnightly schedule, for prayer, mutual encouragement, study of the Bible and other joint activities. Through these small fellowship groups, the Body of Christ is built up through love, mutual ministry and service. Each small group is truly a "Mini-church".
New home groups are formed from time to time as others close.
Ministry Teams
We may forget that most of our church ministry activities are carried out by small groups of people working together. While the focus is a task or service, this is still a fellowship or group of fellow Christians serving God together. The effectiveness of our ministry together will be determined by how we relate to each other and blend our differing gifts to the task of serving God and our neighbours. Our church has set out some helpful guidelines for teams to use in working together.
